Sports and Leisure

Te Kauwhata is thriving with sports, cultural and leisure opportunities.

Our picturesque landscapes are wonderful for rambling, whether on a formal trail such as the Matahuru Valley Walk, or just a stroll through Lakeside. Our rural areas and waterways are popular sites for hunting and fishing, particularly duck shooting and eeling.

We have a proud equestrian history in Te Kauwhata and Waerenga districts, and are perfectly situated for motorsport with Meremere Drags, Hampton Downs Motorsports Park and Huntly Speedway all within a 20 minute drive.

Te Kauwhata is home to gyms and trainers offering classes in boxing, pilates, yoga and more. We have also have an active golf club. Te Kauwhata bowling club also hosts regular cards and games afternoons. Te Kauwhata Tavern hosts quiz nights, 8 Ball and poker nights.

There are plenty of primary and college grade teams in sports including basketball, hockey, netball and rugby. We also have a competitive Senior Rugby team which competes in the Counties Manukau division.

Our community is also rich in arts and culture. You could join the community choir,
